SIXTH ANNUAL FUNDRAISER
Skate for Joy held its sixth annual fundraiser, “Celebrating Our Growth,” April 24 at Cafe Nuovo in Providence. Carolyn Drumm, founder of the group, which helps underserved children discover the joy of ice skating, celebrated the program’s expansion to Newport. WJAR Channel 10’s Gene Valicenti, who served as auctioneer, gathered top bids from the 120 guests for items including a tropical getaway and an overnight in Boston with four tickets to the Red Sox at Fenway. The auction raised $30,000.

Skate for Joy is a non-profit organization committed to helping children discover the joy of ice skating.
It is our goal to engage under-served youth from all backgrounds in a high quality, after-school US Figure Skating Basic Skills program and inspire them, regardless of race or creed.
The program will consistently provide mentoring that will foster skills in goal-setting and teach the importance of physical fitness and respecting themselves and others.
By providing a fun, yet structured and disciplined environment that will help each child build self-esteem, they will mature into confident individuals striving to succeed on-ice and beyond.
Please note: With 85 skaters enrolled, we have a waiting list as of 11/20/08. Contact us to join the list!
